Turns enemy units feral

Chaos is an Atlantean Heroic Age god power in Age of Mythology that is available to the worshipers of Hyperion. When invoked, it causes enemy units in the area to temporarily attack all allied units nearby.

The duration of the god power is 2 + 50 / N seconds, with N being the number of affected units. For e.g., with 2 affected units, it is 27 seconds, with 10 affected units, it is 7 seconds, and with 25 affected units, it is merely 4 seconds.

Gameplay

Chaos can affect many units, even including heroes, so its general use is to harass or cause disorder to enemies. Unlike in the original game, Chaos can be safely used during a battle, as the affected units will attack each other, leaving them further open to being eliminated. The god power's duration is calculated as 2 + 50 / N, where N represents the number of affected units. For example, if used on an army with 5 units, Chaos will last 12 seconds. Note that if it is used on a big army, it will yield diminishing returns and may result in none of the affected units dying in the process. Therefore, using it on seriously wounded armies with few units remaining is ideal, as they will soon find themselves dead from the ensuing infighting.

Chaos can be used on a small force to either help finish them off or to distract them to allow the player's units to escape danger, while using it on a larger army is best for quickly dealing some damage to a big enemy army before battle. Contrary to the original game, units affected by Chaos do not lose their upgrades, so this god power can be devastating when used on an army with several units that would normally be able to counter each other, such as ranged soldiers and cavalry together, or an army with strong units, especially those with highly damaging special abilities. Oranos players can worship Hekate in the Mythic Age to further supplement Chaos with hordes of Lampades - entire armies will suddenly begin damaging or even destroying themselves, forcing enemies to quickly scramble to make up for their heavy losses.

Trivia

  • When units that were turned neutral by a Lampades will gain the neutral color but the orange auras that appeared when it became neutral will remain..
  • The icon of Chaos in Retold features a Star of Chaos symbol from Elric of Melniboné on the Hoplite's armor.
