Heimdall is a Norse Classical Age minor god in Age of Mythology. He is available to worshipers of Odin and Loki.

Attributes

God Power

Undermine Damages enemy buildings and instantly destroys enemy walls and towers in the line of attack.

Technology

Name Description
Safeguard Walls and towers have +25% hit points and buildings cost -50% gold.
Gjallarhorn Upgrades Einherjar to Giant-killer Einherjar, granting +10% hit points, +25% attack, +5 seconds ability duration.
  Rigsthula Buildings +20% work rate.

Myth Unit

Name Description
Einheri Powerful but slow melee unit that is good against buildings and can blow a horn to boost the attack of nearby units.

Gameplay

Heimdall improves buildings, which makes him an ideal choice when playing defensively. His cheaper and tougher walls and Watch Towers can be useful for turtling and tower rushing, respectively. Furthermore, he allows buildings to work more efficiently, even including age advancement, allowing for quicker advancement to later ages or for quicker buildup of an army.

However, he also provides solid anti-building options, making him effective at rushes as well. His myth unit, the Einheri, deals crush damage and is well armored, making it a decent building killer on its own. The blow of the Einheri's horn temporarily increases the attack of any nearby unit under the player's control, making them more powerful early in the game when fewer technologies are available and so more effective at destroying enemy defenses. In addition, Heimdall's god power, Undermine, destroys enemy towers and walls in the direction it is aimed at, allowing him to destroy undefended sections of enemy walls, to negate enemy tower rushes, or to severely weaken enemy defenses.

Odin players who follow Heimdall and then later follow up with Skadi in the Heroic Age will be able to enjoy a stronger economy with the Rigsthula and Winter Harvest technologies. Alternatively, Odin and Loki players can choose Njord in the Heroic Age to further increase their anti-building options, as he provides the Mountain Giant myth unit, which is strong against buildings.

Mythology

"The White God, he sat beside the entrance to the rainbow bridge, keeping watch for giants or other monsters trying to gain entrance to the fortress of the gods. He needed very little sleep and was so perceptive that he could detect the sound of grass growing in the earth or wool growing on a sheep's back. The legends say he could see a hundred miles. He carried the horn Gjall, with which he could warn the gods when Ragnarok began. During Ragnarok, he was to be the last to fall, in single combat with Loki."
