Creates a Plenty Vault that generates resources

Plenty is a Greek Mythic Age god power in Age of Mythology that is available to worshipers of Hephaestus. When invoked, it creates a Plenty Vault that generates 3 food, 3 wood, 3 gold per second (180 of each per minute).

Gameplay

he Vault is indestructible but can be captured by enemy units as it is controlled by whoever has the most military units in its vicinity. Because of this, it is better to place the Vault in a well defended area in order to prevent an enemy to get the advantage of the Vault. It is useful since it does the work of several Villagers and thus frees up some population space. In addition, resources are usually running low by the Mythic Age and the Plenty Vault generates an infinite amount of resources.

In team games, the player can also intentionally give up their Vault to an allied player to help boost their economy.

Appearance on Random Maps

The King of the Hill map has been removed and the mode is now available as a victory condition for any map. Those also generate resources to whichever player holds onto them but the trickle is much lower (about 1 food, 1 wood, 1 gold per second). Players can capture a Vault located at the center of the map and hold onto it for 8 minutes. Doing so will secure the player automatic victory.

Trivia

  • Plenty is a reference to the Horn of Plenty or Cornucopia, a mythical ram horn that produced endless grain, vegetables, and fruits, commonly used as a symbol of abundance and prosperity. However, the Cornucopia of myth is not related to Hephaestus; it was created by the infant Zeus from a horn of the goat who suckled him while he was in hiding from Kronos.
  • Hephaestus, a blacksmith god, providing a power that produces an endless supply of food, wood, and gold may be a reference to Ilmarinen of Finnish mythology who, according to the Kalevala, crafted the Sampo, an artefact (commonly depicted as a mill) that produced an endless supply of flour, salt, and gold.
  • When a player recaptures a Plenty Vault, it will take about a second or two for the system to recognize the player has done so, before changing the countdown to their team's. Therefore, if the player manages to capture the Plenty Vault at the last second, they might still lose the game. This also occurs in the Fight at the Forge scenario.
