{{Quote|Supports 10 population. After you build 10 Houses, you will need to use Town Centers to support additional population.|In-game description}}

In Age of Mythology, the House is a common building which can be built starting in the Archaic Age to provide population. Though they have different designs, houses are similar for each civilization, with Norse houses being slightly weaker.

Houses increase the number of population slots available to a player; each house supports ten population. Players can only have sixteen Houses at any one time. Together with the starting Town Center, this gives a total of 175 slots. The only way to acquire more population than this is to build further Town Centers on Settlements, research Fortified Town Center, or through Relic and god bonuses, etc.

Atlanteans build Manors instead of houses. These support twenty population, but only eight can exist at a time.

In-game description

History

"When agriculture made possible a less nomadic lifestyle, humans began creating more permanent living quarters near their farms, rather than occupying transitory camp sites near hunting grounds or natural shelters like caves. Well built housing improved the quality and longevity of life."

Trivia

  • Originally Houses were not part of the game, and instead the ability to gain population was done through Fertile Fields, a system, where Farms were built upon the Fertile Field, and provided both population, and the ability to be farmed.
